India Farmers Protests goes vogue.
Author The Manufacturing of Greta Thunberg – for consent: the political economy of the non-profit industrial complex
Celebrities and influencers – and British Vogue – are suddenly interested in the Farmers Protests in India. The protests began in November 2020. Despite the massive resistance, the protests have been largely ignored by Western influencers and NGOs.
Consider that Twitter (a tool of empire) is promoting celebrity endorsement of both Rihanna and the Greta Thunberg account – while simultaneously banning and censoring on the ground Indian farmers and activists. Within the past 3 days Twitter has deleted approximately 250 protest/alt-media Twitter accounts. Both the Rihanna and Thunberg account share the CNN article which references Access Now, “an advocacy group which tracks internet freedom.” In reality, Access Now began as arm of Avaaz, an instrument of empire. As a note, most of the articles being shared by the celebrities are from CNN, not from the unions, or farmer’s organizations in India. Perhaps the most telling – and red flag waving share, is the re-tweet of the Rihanna tweet by the imperialist Human Rights Watch.
Celebrity forces unleashed – including Meena Harris, Kamala Harris’s niece:
This comes at a pivotal time. Citizen protests have now begun inside Delhi with massive police presence. Blockades/barricades are being put up all over the encampment sites in a desperate attempt to contain the movement. India is the second most populated country on the planet representing approximately a fifth of the world’s population.
We must observe what is happening through a critical lens.
1. “Any account of celebrities must be predicated on the recognition that ‘the interests served are first of all those of capital.”
2. Media is the key instrument of the ruling class.
3. Greta Thunberg (trademark) is capital’s most powerful influencer.
The Thunberg brand is continually credited by WEF founder Klaus Schwab, with the uptake of stakeholder capitalism and carbon offsets. The Climate Group / We Mean Business (1531 corporations representing 24.8 trillion in market cap) were involved in the creation of the Thunberg campaign/brand from the onset.
Rihanna is the founder of the Clara Lionel Foundation, its focus is on “groundbreaking education and emergency preparedness and response programs around the world.” In September 2016, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation partnered with Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen: “GPE aims to raise at least US$5 billion to transform education systems for more than 1 billion girls and boys in up to 87 countries.” Here we have children recognized as human capital data – to be commodified on blockchain linking behaviour to benefits. (See the work of Alison Hawver McDowell) With its focus on Africa and India, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and Global Citizen is supported by imperialists (Macron, etc.) and corporations (Mastercard, etc.). The Case for Investment:
Here we have fourth industrial revolution digitalization of education: sustainable development goals (emerging markets), implemented by WEF (UN having partnered with World Economic Forum June 13, 2019). [Jan 25, 2018: “Today, at the World Economic Forum’s annual general meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Government of Canada will provide $180 million to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for 2018-2020.”] Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation holds annual “Diamond Balls”. Featured appearances from celebrities and political “leaders” including —via video link, Barack Obama.
The Thunberg Foundation supports WWF and Greenpeace International. Also behind the Thunberg campaign/brand since inception, both work closely with the World Economic Forum (and We Mean Business). The New Deal for Nature / Voice for the Planet was created/led by WEF, in partnership with WWF. This is the financialization and enclosure of nature, global in scale. The WWF is complicit in the torture, rape, murder and mass displacement of Indigenous Peoples worldwide.
The celebrity endorsement is targeting the youth demographic. Here we can note that India holds the world’s largest youth population: More than 50% of India’s population is below the age of 25. 65% of the population is below the age of 35. Youth are the key target demographic for the new global architecture/ fourth industrial revolution / great reset agenda. A key aspect of this agenda is “smart farming”/ automation, genetic engineering of crops and precision agriculture.

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, is a darling of the WEF and global institutions (consolidating in real time). [India’s Ambani Mukesh is a member of the World Economic Forum Board of Trustees, Brookings, McKinsey, etc.; In May 2020, Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, India, was elected to WHO’s executive board; Priyanka Chopra, Indian actress/celebrity, serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, etc.] Therefore, it is unlikely that intervention is being sought. This is not a destabilization manufactured by NATO states. It is a not a movement created/financed by foundations, or NGOs financed by and serving capital and ruling class. These facts make it a different animal. That said, with so much at stake, the possibility of a planned foreign intervention cannot be ruled out.

At present, I think what we see unfolding is a calculated attempt to gain control of what is happening on the ground in India. As Purpose (PR arm of Avaaz, UN partner) is involved in India, I think we can see this as a test of “new power” – that is “the ability to harness the connected crowd to get what you want” — Jeremy Heimans, co-founder of Avaaz, Purpose and Share Verified. What do they want? To gain control of this massive uprising, and channel it. What was the main fear – and main threat articulated by WEF & billionaires – it is the opting out of the social contract. Rebuilding trust is recognized as a key imperative. Will this protest be utilized as a stage for a short-term victory for the farmers – in order for our oppressors to demonstrate their newly founded self-appointed positions as trusted saviors, corporate activists, and stewards of nature. If this is the case, petitions, promoted British Vogue, etc. are a main source of data mining for NGOs aligned with corporations and global institutions. Here we can recall Standing Rock. Consider the organizing surrounding the Standing Rock protest has been referred to as “a template” for the future by 350.org executive director May Boeve (aligned with both Avaaz and Imperative21 – front campaign for Business Roundtable/US arm of “great reset”).
Or, will this serve as a further opening of the floodgates for Western NGOs and “leaders” in order to dominate Indian terrain, culture and psyche. Soft power has been far more effective in implementing the will of corporate power, western ideology and ruling class desires. Where states fail, NGOs often can succeed. Oppression reframed as empowerment has become an art form, shaped and molded by the non-profit industrial complex. Purpose, in servitude to its funders, is now international, with one of their locations based in New Delhi. Its leading funders are the Gates Foundation, the UN and the Ford Foundation.
There is another possibility to explore – looking more plausible as this plays out. In this scenario, the government is reframed from oppressor to victim. Considering the criminal investigation filed against Greta Thunberg, Delhi-based documentarian, Varun Mathur, theorizes: “This may be turned into ‘a conspiracy of foreign vested interests’ – in order to allow international agencies to step in because there is an external threat to democracy. Such a call would probably be made by the government itself. The idea from the outset has continuously been to frame the protests as anti-national. Since no person has been named in the First Information Report (if it has actually been filed), an investigation will have to be launched by ‘concerned authorities’ because of ‘due process’. Essentially, it would work extremely well to consider this a threat to national security and bring in the military. I imagine we all know what the spin will be to go along with that.“
In the coming days, as events unfold, we must resist media and ruling class manipulation. We must be cautious and retain our capacity for sound judgment and critical analysis.
The best way to support India Farmer Protests – and the struggle of farmers and peasantry worldwide – is to fight against imperialism, colonialism, and capitalism – upheld by OUR OWN governments and institutions.
As an aside, celebrities, politicians, nor Thunberg, as voice/brand for climate and biodiversity, draw attention to something rather glaring, that goes unnoticed (or ignored by Western audience) – the complete absence of face masks by millions of Indian citizens. Trillions of discarded masks, largely consumed by wealthier states, have created a new genre of consumer waste/pollution – further polluting and contaminating waterways, rivers, oceans – and further destroying biodiversity, in multi-faceted ways.
